Dean Sienko, MD, MS

Dr. Sienko’s professional medical career has been in the practice of public health and in service to the needs of vulnerable populations. He completed a transitional internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and then entered the Centers for Disease Control’s Epidemic Intelligence Service and Preventive Medicine Residency. As a medical epidemiologist with CDC and later with the Michigan Department of Public Health, he authored and co-authored a number of articles that were accepted into peer-reviewed journals. 

His career took a shift in the late 1980s as he decided to enter local public health practice.  He worked for the Ingham County Health Department for nearly 23 years as the medical director and the director (final five years). In November 2011, Dr. Sienko joined the MSU College of Human Medicine as its founding associate dean for Prevention and Public Health. Dr. Sienko has had a 30-year career in the U.S. Army and is presently a major general in the U.S. Army Reserves.
