Erin Sarzynski, MD, MS

Erin Sarzynski, MD, earned an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Michigan State University and a master of science degree in entomology from the University of Florida. She received her medical degree from MSU College of Human Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at MSU, graduating in 2010. She completed the Sparrow/MSU Geriatric Fellowship in October 2011 and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Sarzynski joined the MSU Family Medicine, Geriatrics Program in November 2011.

Jeffrey W. Dwyer, PhD

Dr. Dwyer is the associate dean for innovation and community partnerships, MSU College of Human Medicine and director of Grants and Research for the Upper Peninsula Health Education Corporation.

Nadir Abdelrahman, MD

Dr. Abdelrahman is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine's Geriatrics and Gerontology Program at Michigan State University. He is a graduate of Gezira University, Faculty of Medicine, Sudan, and completed the Internal Medicine Residency Program through Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He is a board certified internist and fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Abdelrahman was the first physician chosen to participate in the Geriatric Fellowship Program through MSU Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners.

James Mayle, MD

James Mayle, MD, practiced gastroenterology in mid-Michigan for 30 years. He was a faculty member in the MSU College of Human Medicine (CHM) for 25 years and retired from MSU in 2003, having most recently served as chief of the Gastroenterology Section, CHM Department of Medicine. He then practiced until 2008 with the Michigan Gastroenterology Institute. Dr. Mayle completed the MSU/Sparrow Geriatric Fellowship in June 2009, and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine.

Clare Luz, PhD

Dr. Luz is a tenure track assistant professor in the Geriatrics and Gerontology Program. She came to the department from the position of director of research education and outreach for the MSU College of Human Medicine’s Office of Research.

Raza Haque, MD

Raza Haque, MD, performs clinical work, geriatric assessments, skilled nursing facility care and medical directorships. He is associate director of the geriatric fellowship; teaches at the medical student, resident and fellowship levels; and participates in other scholarly activities.

Charles W. Given, PhD

Charles W. Given, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and senior research scientist at the Walther Cancer Foundation. Dr. Given received his PhD in sociology from Michigan State University in 1969.

Kevin Foley, MD, FACP

Kevin Foley, MD, FACP, is associate chair for senior health in the Department of Family Medicine. His primary role is to be the academic leader of geriatric medicine at MSU. He also holds a secondary appointment in the CHM Department of Medicine.
