Hosted by MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland Family Medicine Residency Program, Midland, Michigan

Robert Lachance, MD, presents Jodi Holtrop, PhD, CHES, with the Robert Lachance, MD, Award for Vision and Leadership in Family Medicine.Thirty faculty members from throughout the MSU Family Medicine Residency Network gathered in Midland September 14 to explore the use of web-based technology in residency curriculum design. The keynote lecture, “Electronic Curriculum Database,” was presented by Michael Leonard Tuggy, MD, the Director of the Swedish Family Medicine Residency Program in Seattle, Washington.

Network Director Jodi Summers Holtrop, PhD, CHES, received the Robert Lachance, MD, Award for Vision and Leadership in Family Medicine. She remains an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine.

In the afternoon, Andrew Bone, MD, of the Midland Family Medicine Residency Program, presented a comparison of electronic tracking systems. Each residency program shared how it is currently using electronic technology in both their curriculum and to track resident progress through the program. The retreat was hosted by the Midland Family Medicine Residency Program.

The Network

The Michigan State University Family Medicine Residency Network exists for the purpose of sharing resources, working together on common goals, and encouraging collaborative projects. The Network also supports the work of individual residency programs.

The Retreat

This retreat offers an opportunity for faculty and residents of the MSU-affiliated programs to share their experiences and work together to problem-solve Network-wide issues. Given this purpose, we ask that all attendees come prepared to provide information on their program’s activities, actively engage in discussion, and think creatively about options and opportunities.

Objectives

By the end of the day, participants:

  • Have an updated understanding of issues affecting family medicine and family medicine residency training.
  • Develop new ideas for residency curriculum.
  • Develop and strengthen professional contacts.
  • Understand Network goals and plans and participate in Network planning for the future.
