Exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air pollution is an established risk factor for cardiovascular (CV) morbidity.  This proposed study seeks to investigate the effectiveness of portable indoor air filtration units (AFUs) at mitigating personal exposures to airborne PM2.5 and reducing air pollution-related cardiometabolic health effects on elderly residents in a residential facility.  New insights are anticipated regarding the cardiometabolic effects of long-term AFU usage and nocturnal PM2.5 exposure reduction. This intervention study has the potential to reduce the incidence of CV events in this and other highly susceptible populations.
