The purpose of the FMRN Annual Survey is to collect data that furthers the research and scholarly interests of the residents and faculty of Network Member Programs. While the survey is administered and managed by the MSU Department of Family Medicine, the survey content is determined by the Network Member Programs.
Description:
- The Annual Survey contains no more than 165 research questions (15/member program and 15 for the Department of Family Medicine).
- The Survey includes demographic questions in addition to the maximum number of research questions. Demographic questions will include age range, program affiliation, role (resident/faculty/other staff), and gender. Please contact the FMRN Director if other demographic data is needed.
- The Annual Survey questions can be directed at faculty, residents and/or other program/clinic staff. Researchers will be able to select the audience for their questions at submission.
- Survey questions are limited to scaled, yes/no, multiple choice, and short answer questions. This is to limit the time necessary to complete the survey.
Process:
- The FMRN Director distributes the Question Submission Form and Guidelines to all programs through the Program Director and Coordinator. It will be their responsibility to collect research questions and survey items from their faculty and residents.
- The FMRN Director collects all submitted items from each program and reviews to identify similar research questions or survey items.
- If questions on a similar research topic are submitted by multiple researchers/programs, the FMRN Director will work with those researchers to agree upon a set of questions that can be shared to eliminate repetitive questions.
- The FMRN Director shares the submitted questions with the Annual Survey Advisory Committee. If concerns are identified by Committee members, mentoring will be offered to the researcher with the question(s) involved to make improvements or changes recommended by the Committee.
- Once approved by the Advisory Committee, the survey is created online by the FMRN Director and IRB approval is requested.
- When ready, the FMRN Director sends all programs (Directors and Coordinators) the link to the online survey. It will be their responsibility to distribute to all program members.
- After close of the survey, the FMRN Director prepares all data for each researcher. Data will be de-identified and will be sent as an Excel spreadsheet. A codebook will also be sent to each researcher.
- The FMRN Director maintains the list of questions, complete data set, and codebook for each Annual Survey. Network faculty and residents will be able to request this information from the FMRN Director in future years for purposes of secondary data analysis. All such requests must be approved by the Advisory Committee.
Requirements for Researchers:
- All publications and presentations resulting from data collected through the survey must acknowledge the Network.
- All publications and presentations resulting from data collected through the survey must be shared with the Network.
