The Senior Resident Leadership Retreat, an eagerly anticipated yearly FMRN event was held in early May. Almost 50 residents from FMRN programs traveled to Roscommon to learn about leadership, connect with each other, and recharge. This year’s faculty presenters included Mark Vogel, PhD, ABPP, Laci Zawilinski, PhD, Molly Polverento, MSEd, CPH, Teniesha Wright-Jones, DO (Program Director, Henry Ford Providence), David Klee, MD (Associate Program Director, Munson Health), and Dave Weismantel (Associate Professor, MSU Department of Family Medicine). Faculty provided their expertise and led sessions on leadership, emotional intelligence, communication, and team-building.
Network programs continue to advance innovation, wellbeing, and educational excellence through multiple initiatives. McLaren Flint is building strong momentum in Lifestyle Medicine, securing a $20,000 grant for its Lifestyle Medicine Clinic. They are also celebrating four new faculty board certifications—two in Lifestyle Medicine and two in Obesity Medicine. Wellbeing initiatives are also thriving with Munson Healthcare residents participating in an overnight wellness retreat supported by faculty call coverage and UP Health System - Marquette offering a seminar on navigating conflict with co-residents. The UP program is also expanding training with full birth simulation using the Noelle mannequin and launching a new outreach clinic serving unhoused patients. Programs also remain actively engaged with STFM opportunities, including Henry Ford Providence faculty participation in the STFM Research Capacity Fellowship and University of Michigan Health – Sparrow's participation in a pilot project focused on individualized learning plans for incoming interns. Sparrow’s Director of Behavioral Medicine and Associate Program Director, Amy Romain, LMSW, ACSW also received the Susan McDaniel Distinguished Career Award for behavioral health education.
