Bengt B. Arnetz, MD, Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Madiha Tariq, MPH, Deputy Director at ACCESS, the lead institution in this study, were recently funded to rigorously evaluate the impact of the Earned Income Tax Credit Receipt on reducing risk factors for and enhancing protective factors against adverse childhood experiences.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health; this is a community-engaged prospective study that will determine whether a targeted, and culturally-sensitive program increases the Earned Income Tax Credits receipts by Arab and Chaldean American families in the greater Detroit region that attend ACCESS’ WIC – Women, Infant and Child – services.

The study  will continue for three years and is done in close collaboration with the Accounting Aid Society (AAS). Sukhesh Sudan, MPH and Research Associate in the Department of Family Medicine is also part of the team.
