Person: Katie Ryan

The Department of Family Medicine has given out Community Faculty Awards to congratulate and honor dedicated family physicians and their offices across the great State of Michigan. The Lansing community gave the award to Katie Ryan, MD.

Dr. Ryan was nominated by Sarah Pollick, a 4th year medical student:

“I am writing to nominate Dr. Katie Ryan for the community preceptor award. I worked with Dr. Ryan in her clinic in St. Johns last spring. She is a recent graduate of CHM herself. She was a wonderful teacher who made sure I was engaged in the clinic setting. She was always willing to complete any checklists I had for the clerkship and welcomed me in any of her patient visits or procedures. I felt she embodied the CHM values and was impressed with her bedside manner, which modeled shared decision making and true concern for her patients’ wellbeing. She and her staff were easy to work with and she shared advice on residency and being a new working physician. I enjoyed working with her so much that I asked her to be an author for one of my letters of recommendation for residency, which she graciously accepted. We have continued to remain in touch. I hope the above clearly explains why I think Dr. Ryan warrants this recognition!”
