
Biography
Dr. Mark H. Ebell is a graduate of Kalamazoo College and the University of Michigan Medical School, where he also trained in Family Medicine and has a degree from their School of Public Health. As of 2023 he is a retired Professor from the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia, and is currently a Professor of Family Medicine at Michigan State University. Dr. Ebell was formerly Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Family Practice and is currently Editor-in-Chief of Essential Evidence Plus and Deputy Editor of the American Family Physician journal. He is author of over 600 peer-reviewed publications and is author or editor of eight books, with a focus on evidence-based practice, screening, respiratory infections, cancer screening, and clinical decision-making. Dr. Ebell was a Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Physician Faculty Scholar and has won numerous awards for his research including ‚Distinguished Paper‚ three times from the North American Primary Care Research Group. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard University, the University of G√∂ttingen, the University of Washington, the University of W√ºrzburg, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Florida, and the University of Missouri. Dr. Ebell served on the United States Preventive Services Task Force from 2012 to 2015 and served as a consultant to the Task Force from 2016 to 2020. In 2019 he was Fulbright Scholar at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, and in 2024 won the STFM Curtis Hames Award for lifetime achievement in research.
