Department research assistant Karen Breejen involved in an engaged discussion about her findings on stress and chronic disease development with Patrick Finley at the American Public Health conference in Denver. Karen found that one of the most important determinants of continuous deterioration in refugees’ health once they found a new host country (i.e. U.S.) was stress and trauma experienced here. Future research will study means to prevent such an adverse health trajectory.
