The Claim 28 mine site is located in the Navajo community of Blue Gap Tachee, AZ, and continues to be an important concern for the tribal communities due to the remaining ore and incomplete remediation of abandoned uranium mines.
A research team led by Dr. Matt Campen at the University of New Mexico investigated the effects of exposure to respirable particles (PM2.5) derived from the mine site and their toxicity using laboratory mice.
