Dr. Abdelrahman is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine’s Geriatrics and Gerontology Program at Michigan State University. He is a graduate of Gezira University, Faculty of Medicine, Sudan, and completed the Internal Medicine Residency Program through Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He is a board certified internist and fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Abdelrahman was the first physician chosen to participate in the Geriatric Fellowship Program through MSU Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners. He has also been a Harvard University, School of Medicine, post-doctoral fellow.
As a geriatrician, Dr. Abdelrahman cares for patients for life, seeing them in both the hospital and in nursing homes. His commitment to health care extends beyond his own practice, with research interests that include the effective use of the electronic health record and a focus on improving the quality of life for older adults. Presently, Dr. Abdelrahman and his team have a number of ongoing research projects including a study of smoking cessation in older adults which is funded by The Pearl J. Aldrich Endowment in Aging-Related Research grant.
