Medical students of color face numerous challenges during their training period, yet there are important relationships that support these students’ experiences.
This study explores validating relationships between faculty and students of color at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, relationships where students feel seen, valued and heard. Through multiple focus groups, this study shares specific examples of how faculty support medical students of color. These examples can be used by faculty, staff, and administrators across medical colleges to support all students and foster more inclusive and equitable learning environments.
