Congratulations to Dr. Laura Santoro on receiving the Upper Peninsula Family Medicine Preceptor of the Year award.  Dr. Santor was nominated by Emily Jabari, who said this of Dr. Santoro.

“I would like to nominate Dr. Laura Santoro for the FM Clerkship Award. Dr. Santoro embodies the CHM mission by providing outstanding primary care, promoting the dignity and inclusion of all people, and responding to the needs of the medically underserved. She is passionate about providing comprehensive, patient-centered care to all persons she meets. She always greets her patients with a smile and seeks to develop relationships with her patients. From a teaching standpoint, Dr. Santoro is one of the best preceptors I have ever worked with. She encouraged autonomy and sought to involve me in all aspects of her patients’ care. I was in awe of the relationships she had developed with her patients and their families, and knew I wanted the same thing with my future patients. I also learned by watching how Dr. Santoro interacted with her patients: her sincere approach, her caring tone, and her thoughtfulness when developing plans. Between patients, I enjoyed getting to know Dr. Santoro and have very fond memories of us talking about places to see in the UP and our favorite meals to cook. By the end of the rotation, Dr. Santoro had become my mentor. She is the kind of person I want to stay in touch with throughout my career. Dr. Santoro makes the UP community and the world at large a better place with her presence.”
