UMHSparrow/MSU Family Medicine Residency Program

 UMHSparrow/MSU Family Medicine Residency Program

UMHSparrow is an exciting, innovative office-based residency program located near our state capital. The program has a long history of training both allopathic and osteopathic physicians and has earned osteopathic recognition from the ACGME.

We merge the clinical perspectives and resources of a major community teaching hospital with the academic perspectives and resources of the Department of Family Medicine at Michigan State University.  This blends traditional curriculum structure with longitudinal training themes.

Our program provides cutting edge, premier Family Medicine training for 30 residents. Our Family Medicine residents are highly respected throughout the hospital system, and play a critical role in improving the health of the people of Mid-Michigan. Our physicians find that Lansing is not only a desirable location for training but also for future practice destination. Many of our graduates have chosen to stay in the community and practice medicine in the greater Lansing area.

We have two office settings, one in Lansing, one in Mason, with a combined patient population of around 10,000.  Residents choose one office as their home base and are assigned a panel of 300-400 patients.   Ambulatory training includes a focus on procedures, point of care ultrasound, complex behavioral health, and substance use disorder treatment.

Residents interested in maternity care can choose to follow an OB track. This residency program also serves as the sponsor for the Sparrow / MSU Sports Medicine Fellowship.

The Integrated Medical School and Family Medicine Residency (TIP) Program offers a compelling future to me for simple reasons. It is a conjunction of every trajectory I aspire towards - competent and community-centered family medicine in the state of Michigan.
Accompanied by a team of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSU CHM) medical students and residents, Dr. Hend Azhary embarked on a six-day mission to provide medical assistance to Syrian refugees in Jordan.
