Dr. Pokhrel is program director for the McLaren Regional Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Programand is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine. He received his MD from Kiev, Ukraine, his MS in toxicology from University of Connecticut, and CT and PhD in pharmacology from St John’s University, NY. He completed his faculty development fellowship through OMERAD, MSU-CHM.

Before coming to Michigan, Dr. Pokhrel served as an acting-dean in the New York College of Wholistic Medicine, Syosset, NY. Dr. Pokhrel and colleagues have published several research-based and review articles in peer-reviewed journals. One of his papers, where he served as a corresponding author won the “Best Article of the Year Award” from Osteopathic Family Physician. Family medicine residents have honored Dr. Pokhrel twice with Outstanding Faculty award. He was honored by Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine medical students with Certificate of Excellence in Teaching twice and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society Volunteer Clinical Faculty Award award once. He has been honored few times with Faculty Investigator Research Award during MSU/Flint Area Medical Education Community Research Forum. He and his colleagues won the first place in poster presentation at MSU/FAME Community Research Forum.  He was awarded first place for his research presentation on vitamin D during Michigan Family Medicine Research Day. Dr. Pokhrel has lectured on various topics of his interest at national and international levels. His passion, other than taking care of patients, teaching residents and medical students, include community service, running, and traveling.
