What exactly do we mean by “Healthy Aging”? According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, Healthy Aging is ‘adopting healthy habits and behaviors, staying involved in your community, using preventive services, managing health conditions, and understanding all your medications that contribute to a productive and meaningful life.’ It’s being as active as you physically can be, eating a healthy well-balance diet, practicing self-management techniques, and being connected to others. Don’t forget that a positive can-do attitude, having purpose, and being involved in something you are passionate about works wonders for your health. Talk to your primary care provider about ways to incorporate healthy habits into your routine. You can also look for workshops hosted by MSU Extension and your local Area Agency on Aging for managing conditions including diabetes or chronic pain, falls prevention, and caregiving.
